History

Missioneer International’s story is one of faith, resilience, and transformation. It began in 2002 when Suresh Thomas and his wife, Julie took a bold step of faith, leaving the comfort of home in the USA to serve as mission workers in Sri Lanka, a beautiful nation ravaged by a 30-year civil war. Fueled by passion of Christ’s love, they spent three unforgettable years building five community centers in some of the most underserved areas of Northern Sri Lanka.The completed their 3-year stint after the tsunami struck Sri Lanka providing much-needed relief to affected communities. In 2005, Missioneer was born as a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming lives.

What started as a small initiative has grown into a movement that has touched the lives of over 5,000 and more children in Sri Lanka. Through tutoring programs, clean drinking water initiatives, Bible clubs, and innovative educational projects, we’ve empowered countless young minds and brightened countless futures. The impact spread to the bustling inner city of Colombo, where they tackled the unique urban challenges of drugs, truancy, poverty, and hopelessness. But Missioneer’s vision didn’t stop at Sri Lanka’s borders.

In India, they launched a groundbreaking HIV project in Madurai, after which, another dozen active projects have been initiated across India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Today, these projects provide critical support and opportunities for families living below the poverty line, giving them a chance to rise above their circumstances.

One of our proudest milestones came when the six centers in Sri Lanka were handed over to local churches. This transition not only ensured their sustainability but also deepened their roots within the communities they serve.

The ripple effects of Missioneer’s work are profound. Many of the children we’ve supported have gone on to pursue higher education, secure meaningful employment, and even find opportunities abroad in the Middle East. These success stories are a testament to the transformative power of hope, education, and community.
